"Kelsey"s Law" is now in effect for Student Drivers
On March 28, 2013 "Kelsey's Law" went into effect for all current and future drivers with a Level 1 or Level 2 graduated license. Kelsey's Law prohibits drivers from using their cell phone while operating a motor vehicle upon a highway or street. "Use" is defined as initiating calls; answering calls; or listening to or engaging in verbal communication through a cellular telephone. This law does not apply to an individual using a voice-operated system that is integrated into the motor vehicle. The only exceptions to this law are for: reporting a traffic accident, medical emergency or serious road hazard; reporting a situation in which the person believes his or her personal safety is in jeopardy; reporting or averting the perpetration or potential perpetration of a criminal act against the individual or another person. Violations cited under MCL 257.602 is considered a civil infraction.

Public Hearing 5/14 for Bullying Policy
Signed as law during this school year by Governor Snyder, MCL 380.1310B is commonly referred to as "Matt's Safe School Law, PA 241 of 2011". Schools across the state are required to adopt and implement a comprehensive Board policy prohibiting bullying at school. While Bellaire and most schools have had a policy against bullying on the books for several years, this new legislation has mandated certain requirements that need to be included in that policy. A public hearing will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 6:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center where the 2nd reading of the proposed Policy # 8260 will take place. This revised policy will be one of ten policies up for adoption on the night but is the only one that requires the District to hold a public hearing specifically for adoption.
Great Turnout for Town Meeting
On Tuesday evening, October 25 the Bellaire Board of Education held a town meeting hoping to gather input from the community regarding the school. Approximately 100 people were in attendance and helped contribute during the round-table discussions. That information is being compiled and the Board and administration will review all of the responses with the hope of providing feedback soon. Thank you all for your contributions.
